Yet another walk-down-the-memory-lane post??? Well, yeah :) It should be the first of many on Italy because I was there for 2 months in 2005. Each week, we went off to visit a wonderful city in the region...

A booth in the second class train can cramp in 6 people. There were 5 of us and since it was assigned seating, there was already a guy in our booth.
He was a Romanian living in Italy. Interestingly enough, we didn’t speak Italiano (we knew enough to buy us meals and train tickets hehe ), and he was not well versed in English. So, it’s like chickens and ducks. :D
We had a pen and paper at our disposal. We also had a couple of Italian phrasebooks in our possession, but we couldn’t flip through them fast enough. It was mostly him who did the talking, the gesturing and the drawing. :)

When Chin Seng asked to turn off the lights, we gave our best to continue on with our conversation. But it was pretty much useless. So the next best thing to do was to get a shut eye ;)
And the funny thing was… we thought that we had gone on and on talking for hours, but it was only an hour into our 6-hour train ride! Ha ha ha.

ReplyDeleteha ha. that's one of the first things you learn when picking up a new language. At first, the guy asked for the F-U phrase in Malay, we told him there's no such equivalent. He was a bit frustrated. So we ended up giving him the phrase in Cantonese :D
