Don't look at me, I didn't start it... part 2

When I studied abroad, some of the girls let me know that they weren't really scared of ghosts.  Their excuse - Ghosts got left behind in Malaysia because they couldn't get on planes. :D

Back in high school, every time there was a blackout, we would jump up in joy because we didn't have to go for night prep. You'd think we'd know better, but what better way to kill time but to gather around and exchange ghost stories.  :P  When it was time for bed, we'd be too scared to go to the toilet by ourselves, so we'd end up going to the toilet in a big group.  But friends do what friends do best.  By the time they were done, they'd leave and run back to their rooms, especially with the only torchlight.  Leaving behind those whom earlier had too much to drink.  :P  *lol*

There were the usual stories on hysteria, headless Japanese soldiers marching on the corridor with their heads in their arms, hantu galah, the one that mimics your friend but you'd soon discover your friend was elsewhere, just to name a few.

[A word of caution.  You'd never know who would slip in amongst you and listen to your conversation.  There was one time when my friend took the torchlight and aimed it at each one of us, only to discover that a teacher was lying in the bed next to us.  Good thing we were talking nonsense and didn't badmouth the teachers at school.  Hahaha.  The guys in the next room got into some trouble with this.  :D]

Anyway, I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with an old movie, Pusaka Pontianak. I don't think I've seen it in its entirety, but the song Pontianak (Jibam jibam) sticks in my mind.
Note: Pontianak = perempuan mati anak - a woman who died at labor
I have no idea what got into my friends' heads at that time but they started forming a band, substituting guitars with brooms, and drums with buckets, pails and what have you, in the middle of the room. Of all the freely available songs in the whole world, they chose the Pontianak (Jibam Jibam) tune - "Pontianak. Jibam jibam. Dgrlah lagu. Untuk muuu"  (Listen to the song, just for you)

Once they finished singing it, then out of nowhere came this gush of howling wind, passing outside of our room. It lasted for 15-20 seconds. Not less. If we didn't know any better, it sounded like shrieking Pontianaks!

The guys scampered to their beds so quick before you could say Run! You should look at our faces during and after the incident. Once it was all over, 'Itulah. Sapa suruh nyanyi? Kan dah dtg!' () was all that we could muster :p

A bit scary if I decide to go balik kampung at night.  I'd try not too look into the rearview mirror.  Hehehe
At kampung, my mom shared with us a couple of her experiences.  Both times happened when she was riding pillion on the motorbike with dad.  On the first occasion, they were returning from the mosque after Isyak (the night prayer) when all of the sudden the bike became heavy.  Dad made a comment "Hish, ni sapa yang tumpang ni?" (So now, who's pitching a ride?)  Soon after that, it was as if a huge load was taken off the bike and my parents were able to continue on with their way.

On the second occasion, the motorbike just died.  A few moments later, dad was able to switch on the engine.  When my mom looked at her watch, it showed just after 12 noon.  Apparently, that site is the said "crossing path" for the unseen.

Scarrryyy....

So care to share some of your stories? :)

* - Perhaps I should have tried to write this in Malay.  Sometimes, these things are better off written in Malay. :)

  3. Masa kat sekolah dulu kau ingat x cerita a ghots covered in white cloth dukung something on her arms (looks like carrying a baby) with a dog besides her appearing after mid nite. Aku rasa dah ujung penggal 3 baru dia buat appearance, selalu nya kat area sidai baju asrama putri..staring at their hostel block.

  6. Wow! This is the sequel? Lots of Malaysian ghost story shared among us in those days kan? Hantu Kum-Kum la, the Karak Highway tragedy, orang bunian & lots more.

Ages ago we used to share ghost stories when we have family gathering during school holidays in my dad's hometown Muar. It was after dinner & lasted until late night at the verandah. Guess, who was the boy who can't sleep after that? :D
