EU 2015 (x): Amsterdam

We were toying with the idea of flying back home via Paris but the expensive hotel rates deterred us away. So we chose Amsterdam instead even though we would be flying a MAS B777-200 older plane and not the A380.

Alhamdulillah sangat-sangat (Thank God) that we didn't go to Paris. The French air traffic controllers were on their second day strike over working conditions on our travel day from Pisa. Our flight to Amsterdam was even effected by it that it got delayed due to the congested Germany airspace. An hour worth of delay is nothing compared to a cancelled flight.

I've already had an entry on Amsterdam before, so I'll just focus on the new places and experience.

One of the main highlights on this leg was the trip to Zaanse Schans, a open-air museum area with "a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses". It was 40-minute bus ride away from Amsterdam Central Station.
To show where Zaanse Schans is at

Waiting for bus 391 at Amsterdam Central Station. I got to know from Google that the white building is the EYE Film Museum
Several of the windmills in Zaanse Schans

Photo op is never to be missed ;)

Ducks! :D

Cheese making display and store in one of the village homes

Ice cream is great anywhere, anytime :)
The one behind me is De Kat (The Cat) - a paint mill
De Kat from another angle and the neighbourhood across the river Zaan

That's De Gekroonde Poelenburg
I paid 4 euros to see the insides of De Kat.
Paint making is not really a painstaking process if you have a paint mill. Okay, that's lame :D

The disks and gears

The Zaan river

Looking directly at De Zoeker (oil mill). The other 2 windmills are Het Jonge Schaap (saw mill) and De Bonte Hen (oil mill)

De Zoeker (an oilmill). I didn't fork out another 4 Euros to go in... and we headed back to the village

The left-most building is actually an oil mill

From right to left: De Gekroonde Poelenburg (saw mill), De Kat (paint mill), De Zoeker (oil mill) and Het Jonge Schaap (saw mill)

Later in the evening, we went on the night river cruise after chowing down our dinner in less than 10 minutes :D

How about some random pictures to end the entry?
Our Transavia flight from Pisa to Amsterdam. Despite not knowing of the airline before we came, it was a pretty good airline

Walking from Amsterdam Central station to our hotel on the Damrak avenue
Dam Square

I'd pay for that Mini Electro Car :)
I didn't know they also have strollers

The Casino
The Royal Palace in Dam Square.

The famous Iamsterdam sign at night

We can have the sign all to ourselves :)
Compare the night pictures to this. You can hardly see the sign :D
Or this

I love those tulips!

Pretty flowers on the sides... I won't even attempt to name them :D

The sprinklers came on and sprayed water on these poor folks. Kesian...

Magnum Cafe, Amsterdam.
An Amsterdam canal... not sure which one though :)

Tourists flocked to the Red Light District
Took this in secret to show some guys doing some window shopping :D

People queue up for such fries

We actually didn't know what the big fuss was all about. To me, they were like normal fries. Perhaps the sauce? This one is samurai sauce... spicy mayo?

Then it was time to go back...
Mak... nak siput sedut masak lemak... *shucks*
