EU 2017 (iii): Nürnberg

Nuremberg is yet another city in the state of Bavaria that is less than an hour's away from Bamberg by train. We flew into the city from London the other day, so it was time to get more acquainted with it.

We hired a cab to go to Kaiserburg, an imperial castle during the Holy Roman Empire. What impressed me was the city walls that are still standing. I learned that they surround the old city for a good 4 kilometers.
Those massive walls behind between me and the palace are the old city walls

The compounds of the Kaiserburg

Hey birdies!

We simply loved the burggarten (palace garden).

Part of the burggarten

Right below the Kaiserburg is the Albrecht-Dürer-Platz
Albrecht Dürer platz

That's the house of Albrecht Dürer, a German artist in the Renaissance period.

We are family :D

Somewhat grotesque rabbit sculpture
Then as we walked back towards the center we found the cafe that Firouz had once eaten at but hasn't found it after - Café am Trödelmarkt. We both ordered the Bavarian potato pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer) with salmon and then cakes for dessert.

Every single angle is photo-op

I loved this Kartoffelpuffer

Cakes for dessert!

That's one big slice!

While waiting for Thomas to arrive, we walked in the square that housed the Frauenkirche and a water fountain that is in the shape of a Gothic spire called Schöner Brunnen; it literally stands for 'beautiful fountain' :). Firouz told me that this is the square that they'll hold the yearly Christmas market.

Frauenkirche

The Old Townhall (Altes Rathaus) was nearby too and so were a few picture-worthy places like the Museum bridge (Museumsbrücke), the Ship of Fools sculpture and the St Lorenz Church (Lorenzkirche).
Mata mana mata? (Where are your eyes?) :D

Sankt Sebalduskirche (St Sebaldus Church)

Again, that's the St Sebaldus Church

The Old Townhall

Firouz said, Look into the distance :D

Trying to fulfill Firouz's direction for 'ponder' :D

When Thomas arrived, we went to La Gelateria 4D to get ourselves some gelato. Firouz was such a friend that he entertained my request by getting the Tagliatelle gelato so that we could take pictures of it. LOL!
That's the Tagliatelle inspired gelato!

Mine's just a normal looking one... hehehe
Since it was Labor Day, shops other than restaurants and cafes were closed. So we walked around and went as far as Ehekarussell, the fountain that "plots the sad course of marriage from dating to death".

Not too sure what that is, but it also serves as the entrance to the U-bahn

Posing in front of the Ehekarussell
I'm not sure what the correct order is or if there's any...

Oh man, I got the leg wrong :D
When it was time for our 8pm reservation at Sumach, a Turkish restaurant, we made our way there. Not before stumbling upon the Red light district, which I believe it's on Frauentormauer street. It was kinda funny because as we were walking, we asked Thomas if there's a Red light district in Nuremberg. Thomas said there was none to the best of his knowledge. But then, just as he finished his sentence, lo and behold, there it was. A whole street of girls in 'aquarium' per se. And they have name signs, which would be easier to identify which girls you would want :D. Firouz wanted to take pictures but I objected, not wanting to get us in trouble, even though I did have the same urge :'D. I know it's forbidden in Amsterdam.
This is RLD street and how it looks like in between the glass windows. The RLD is blocked from view from the main road by those city walls :D. There's even a smile on Thomas' face :D
Dinner was amazing!
The bread and the whatcha-call-those were delicious!

Firouz's octopus dish. Sooo soft!

My deconstructed chicken kebab
There are other places that we didn't get to check out. For instance, the 'Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds' museum (Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelände) and Nuremberg Trial Courthouse. These would definitely require at least a couple of hours to visit. Next time then... Hey, the 'reasons to com back list' is getting longer :D.
