EU 2017 (iv): München

If we had flown an inbound flight from Stansted to Nuremberg, we took an easyJet flight to Gatwick from Munich. Ryanair flies two flights per day from Nuremberg to Stansted. One that leaves at 6:30 in the morning, and the other gets to Stansted at 11:25pm. With another 2 hours of travel by trains and trams to Beckenham, the latter is never a possibility. The 6:30am flight neither sounds appealing. You'd need to stay in Nuremberg and leave for the airport during the wee hours.

[updated map to include Munich]

It took us 2 hours to get to Munich by the ICE train. And with 40 minutes of train ride to the airport on the S-bahn, we had a couple of hours to spend on checking out the city and having lunch.

We walked towards Marienplatz square, and along the way we snapped pictures at Karlstor arch and partly-scaffolded Frauenkirche church.

Someone quippedthat I smile the same wayin every single pic. Hahaha. I'm not used to having a personal photographer, so I ran out of pose and the likes :D

I googled and that could be the county court behind me

St Michael's church

Frauenkirche. Too bad one tower was scaffolded. Firouz said I could take a picture of one and photoshop the other :D

At the Marienplatz there was the New Townhall (Neues Rathaus) and a toy museum. We had lunch at a nearby Rischart restaurant.

Peace yo!

Ignore me :D. Focus on the clock tower in the background... that's the toy museum

It was drizzling as we left Bamberg. In Munich, the sun was out. However, we were the only ones under the shades at the restaurant. Hahaha, typical Asians. But it's not as bad as some whom I saw in Lisbon carrying umbrellas :).
Hiding in the shades. We had our Vitamin D fix in the previous days. My face is a few shades darker than my hands :D

A tall glass of johannisbeerschorle, aka sparkling ribena :D

Everyone else was in the sun, so our table was safe :)

From an another angle.. waiting for our flammkuchen to arrive

This is the Flammkuchen - German's pizza. I totally dig this

2 hours were definitely not enough for Munich, especially when it is the capital and the largest city in Bavaria. All we did was to go to Marientplatz for lunch. That's barely scratching the surface. Now, where's my 'reasons to come back' list? :)
Where Bavaria lies in perspective to Germany
A big shout out to Firouz and Thomas. Thanks for literally EVERYTHING! From hosting me to taking me around, to paying for meals, train tickets and other stuff. You guys are the best! Danke schön!
