Finally! This is the trip which was 2 years in the making. We couldn't use the tickets in 2020 due to the pandemic, so MAS was kind enough to change them to open tickets, which are valid until the end of 2022. Since the deadline to redeem them was in June 2022, we chose the the Merdeka day celebration as our go-to dates.
My friend even roped in two friends who are Langkawi newbies. Langkawi virgins, if you will :D
Enough chocs to buy, I think 😁
Test dulu sebelum terbang. Insya Allah
There are several ways to get to the airport.
Taking the bus ought to be cheapest mode of transportation, but do factor in the traffic jam.
Oh wait, the cheapest is to get someone to send you all the way to the airport. Unless you're paying for the tolls, petrol or belanja ngeteh (paying for drinks. It definititely has to be Starbucks) 😉
Grab is RM65 plus the tolls. But I'm not the talkatype type so I don't really like taking a long Grab ride 😊
A friend who has 4 kids say that he always opts to drive the airport and park there. The KLIA and LTCP (long term car park) are RM46 and RM32 ringgit a day, respectively. He likes the convenience and the rate when comparing it to Grab or KLIA Express/Transit.
Sometimes I'd drive myself to Putrajaya Sentral especially when I'm taking a flight after work. The ERL Transit fare to KLIA would be RM9.20 one way, so that makes it RM18.40 for return tickets. The parking rate is RM12 per day for an overnight parking (RM8 + RM4).
For this trip, my friend and I opted to take the KLIA Transit -- the ERL has combined the Express and Transit together.
Here's a tip for you guys if you have like 20-30 minutes to spare.
The adult fare for a direct KL Sentral to KLIA ERL train ride is RM55. But if you stop at Putrajaya, tag out, tag in and wait for the next train, the total fare is only RM23.40. And if you purchase your tickets using the KLIA Express app or website, you can get a 10% discount
KLIA Transit fare
My friend and I took the 8:40am train from KL Sentral. The next train from Putrajaya was 20 minutes later, so it was only a quick stop. A puff and a pee break would cover the time :).
When we arrived at KLIA, the queue at the MAS counters was manageable and we were able to drop our bags off under half an hour. Enough for us to grab a quick breakfast at McDonald's.
Our flight took off on time at 11:55 so we landed in Langkawi as scheduled. Before checking in, we bought kuihs at our favourite stall in Beras Terbakar and then had a light lunch at Laksa Ikan Sekoq. Too bad the gravy wasn't as nice as before, but eating by the waters still gave the best of feelings.
Shopping kuih! hehehe
Tu dia kuihhh
This time around, we were able to check-in early, like an hour before the official 3pm time.
We paid for a suite upgrade. Sweet.
Spacious bathroom
Since we were waiting two of friends who were arriving much later in the evening, we hung out in the room for most of the afternoon, had a quick check on the chocolate prices at the nearby shops and went to the beach close to sundown.
It wasn't here when we came the last time
Got some chocolate snacks. We did a mistake for not buying for ourselves before this
Retreated to our room for the sunset
Awesome golden hour. We only got this on the first evening.
We picked up our friends who were newbies to Langkawi at the airport and then went to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
Did the sign the night before. Gigih tak? Haha
Welcome to Langkawi guys!
Skodeng orang dari balkoni pun boleh :D
Day 2: Monday
The first order of the day was always breakfast. We had nasi lemak at a stall across the Underwater World.
After seeing off our two friends for island hopping trip, we went back to our room to continue with our slumber. Haha, nah. We couldn't just do that. Instead, we went for a morning-closer-to-noon swim. Panasss dan terbakarrr. Dah nama cuti kan. Hahaha
After our friends had returned just after noon and freshened up, we brought them to the same kuih stall to buy some kuihs before heading towards Laksa Sekoq. Sure, the gravy was still the same as yesterday they still need to experience it right? Not only laksa, but we ordered pasembur, fried kuay teow, beehoon noodle soup and some kind of rice (Hahaha I forgot).
Full table
Since the weather wasn't very cooperating, the plan for them to go to Cable Car had to be postponed to Wednesday, after sending us off to the airportt. So instead, we went to Kuah to checkout HIG and Dataran Lang.
Later that night, we had dinner and watched the fire show at Anak Antu cafe. Something that the both of us wouldn't have done if it wasn't for our Langkawi newbies. We would probably watch for a few minutes at the sides and leave :D. But it was certainly a good choice to watch the fire show. We just needed to buy the 15 ringgit drink to lepak at the beanies and mat.
Day 3: Tuesday
In the morning, we had breakfast at the next door gerai to that of yesterday's. I had roti telur. The other guys had nasi lemak. I took a bite and I kinda liked it.
Today's itinerary include Telaga Tujuh - both waterfall and a hike up to the 7 wells, a quick stop at the Pantai Pasir Hitam and Tanjung Rhu.
My last and only visit to Telaga Tujuh was in 2009 with my family (https://em-zed.blogspot.com/2009/05/langkawi-getaway.html). So it's a good time to revisit it with those who were new to Langkawi.
Stopped at the waterfall first
This is new. Well at least to me
Kita mandi dulu.
Yay, reached the 7 wells
River, jungle, sea, sky, cable car
Telaga 7
That'd be me when I go back to the office after the vacation
Pantai Pasir Hitam
Pantai Pasir Hitam
Pantai Pasir Hitam, take 2
Late lunch at Scarborough Fish & Chips, Tanjung Rhu
The view is spectacular
Hungry faces
Pisang goreng sedap tapau dari Tg Rhu
In the evening, we went for a quick dip in the sea. It was cut short because the "rangers" blew their whistle telling us to vacate the waters just as the sun was setting.
Day 4: Wednesday
Woah, time flew ever so quickly. Before we knew it, it was already the final day.
After breakfast, we took one last swim because checking out. Someone wasn't happy that it was only a brief dip in the sea yesterday 😁.
Don't lose the hat!
In this trip I didn't go overboard when it came to chocolate shopping. I only bought 5 kilos of chocolate. So much so, I had some space left in my luggage that I offered it to my friends for their chocolates. They didn't purchase any checkin luggage. That's a blasphemy if you come to Langkawi. LOL!
Mine is just the plastic bag with the Mars chocs
We were dropped off at the airport after lunch before our friends went on their merry way to the Cable Car to kill off time before their evening flight.
We did good. We were 4 kilos under the limit. Should have bought more :D
The paperbag ripped, so placing some of the hand-carried chocolates in the big bag
All in all, I had a great time. I hope the newbies did as well. I would think an extra day would be even better to just lounge and lepakkk :D. Thanks Langkawi and my friends.
A check after coming back. Alhamdulillah, insya Allah
